I felt like yesterday’s blog was a little too short and I wanted to add more to it. Instead of rewriting the blog or trying to add more words to the first blog, I thought it would be best if I just make a part 2 explaining more of what I meant.
I was inspired to write “Keeping ‘Christ’ in Christmas” (pt 1 & 2) after watching BronzeGoddness01′s youtube video “The REAL meaning of Christmas”. I posted the link below so you all can check her video out after you finish reading this blog post, if you have a youtube account subscribe to her channel she is a great lady and you will not be disappointed if you do.
The REAL meaning of Christmas
Today is Christmas Eve and I am reflecting on the story in Luke when the angel, Gabriel can down to tell Mary that she was going to be pregnant with a baby. Now as we all know Mary was a young girl maybe about 13 or 14 and she was engaged to be married to Joseph who was a descendant of David. Most importantly we all know that Mary was a virgin.
Luke 1:26-38 NKJV ’The Birth of Jesus Foretold’
26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
I think its awesome that God chose Mary and did something supernatural within her. I love how Mary response was not her thinking negative or asking Gabriel why me and not somebody else. All she ask was how can this be sense she never had sex with a man and then at the end she told the angel that she is the Lord’s servant and let God’s will be done. I find that to be powerful to me because I am not sure if I would respond like that if Gabriel told me I was going to be pregnant. How would you respond? Or would you be in the position to even receive a message from Gabriel? Could God find favor in you?
After the angel Gabriel leaves Mary get to travel to visit Elizabeth. Elizabeth is in her old age and is pregnant, when she sees Mary her baby leaped in her womb and calls Mary bless. Mary breaks out into a song a little later glorifying the Lord.
Luke 1:46-55 NKJV ‘Mary’s Song’
46 And Mary said:
“ My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”
Last Sunday my pastor preached a sermon about Mary’s song and how it showed that she knew the Word of God. In her song she quoted several things that the Lord has done in the Old Testament. From this I learned that you have to be able to know the Word to be able to pull it when you need it.
In writing all of this and sharing these words, I just wanted to let you all know that remember the importance of Christmas and understanding the meaning of it is more important then worrying about what gift you will get from your parents or what gift you can give your husband. Christmas is about Jesus and the gift God gave us.
